This was a two-stage design-build contract by LinEl Signature Skylights to replace the original 1890’s steel skylights with a modern system that replicates the original sizes and spacing – including the five custom rafter caps. This was done to satisfy a requirement to maintain the original aesthetic profiles.

The first phase of construction is the replacement of 22,000 square feet of wire glass skylight with high performance light monitoring insulated glass – a total of five different light transmissions. The work was coordinated with the Corcoran Gallery so that the skylights are replaced during the transition between exhibits to minimize the impact on the staff, students and the general public.
